Ingredients

MEAT MIXTURE:

  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 medium yellow onion, divided
  • 1/3 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 teaspoons Ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon coarse kosher salt
  • dash worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

GRAVY:

  • remainder of onion from above, sliced
  • 8 ounces sliced white mushrooms
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups low-sodium beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon worcestershire sauce

Instructions

  1. Prepare Meat Mixture: Combine ground beef, diced onion, breadcrumbs, egg, ketchup, mustard, salt, and Worcestershire. Form into oval patties.
  2. Brown Patties: Brown patties in a skillet, then set aside.
  3. Make Gravy: Sauté onions, mushrooms, and garlic. Make a roux with butter and flour, then add broth, ketchup, mustard, and Worcestershire. Simmer until thickened.
  4. Combine and Serve: Return patties to the skillet with gravy. Simmer until patties are cooked through. Serve over mashed potatoes, noodles, or rice.

Notes

  • You can customize the seasoning of the meat mixture to suit your preferences.
  • For a richer gravy, you can add a splash of heavy cream at the end.
