Ingredients

Date Caramel Sauce

  • 12 Natural Delights® Medjool dates, pitted
  • 1/2 cup almond milk (or milk of your choice)
  • 1/4 cup water, plus more if needed
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp sea salt

Iced Caramel Macchiato

  • 1-2 tsp maple syrup
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup almond milk (or milk of your choice)
  • Ice, as needed
  • 2 shots espresso or 4 oz strong brewed coffee

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Date Caramel Sauce: Place the pitted dates, 1/2 cup milk, 1/4 cup water, 1/2 tsp vanilla extract, and 1/4 tsp sea salt into a high-speed blender or food processor. If the dates are dry or a bit old, soak them in hot water first to soften. Blend until smooth, adding more water if necessary to achieve a sauce-like consistency. Transfer the sauce to a squeeze bottle if you have one for easy drizzling.
  2. Assemble the Drink Base: In a glass, add 1 tablespoon of the date caramel sauce to the bottom. You can also drizzle some on the sides for visual appeal. Then, add the maple syrup, 1/2 tsp vanilla extract, and 3/4 cup milk to the glass, stirring well to combine all ingredients.
  3. Add Ice: Fill the glass with ice, leaving enough room at the top to pour the espresso.
  4. Pour Espresso: Carefully pour the two shots of espresso or 4 oz strong brewed coffee over the ice and milk mixture. This layering creates the classic macchiato effect.
  5. Finish with Caramel Drizzle and Serve: Drizzle a little more date caramel sauce on top for extra sweetness and garnish. Stir gently if desired, then enjoy your homemade iced caramel macchiato!

Notes

  • To make a hot caramel macchiato, simply omit the ice and heat the milk before pouring into the cup.
  • Store leftover date caramel sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week. It may thicken when chilled; gently warm or stir in a little hot water to loosen before use.
  • This recipe uses natural ingredients to replicate the classic Starbucks iced caramel macchiato with a healthier twist.
