Ingredients

Matcha Tea

  • ½ teaspoon matcha powder
  • ¼ cup hot water (about 175°F or 80°C)
  • 1 cup additional hot water (about 175°F or 80°C)
  • Optional: honey, maple syrup, or other sweetener to taste

Instructions

  1. Sift the Matcha Powder: Sift the ½ teaspoon of matcha powder through a fine mesh sifter into a mug or small bowl to remove any lumps and ensure a smooth tea.
  2. Whisk to Froth: Pour ¼ cup of hot water into the mug with the sifted matcha powder. Using a bamboo matcha whisk, whisk vigorously in a ‘W’ pattern for about 30 seconds until the tea becomes frothy. Alternatively, you can use an electric frother for convenience.
  3. Add Remaining Hot Water: Pour in the remaining 1 cup of hot water to fill the mug. Stir gently to combine and enjoy your matcha tea as is or sweeten it with honey, maple syrup, or your preferred sweetener.

Notes

  • For a refreshing twist, chill the prepared matcha tea in the fridge and serve over ice for an iced matcha tea.
  • You can experiment by making an iced matcha and salted caramel latte for a gourmet variation.
  • Use water heated to about 175°F (80°C) to avoid burning the delicate matcha powder and maintain its flavor.
  • A traditional bamboo whisk (chasen) best achieves the ideal frothy texture, but an electric frother is an excellent alternative.
